Jenie-O Turkey Breast

We only had my Husband, our dad, and me for dinner for Thanksgiving. We decided a big turkey would be too much, and well even though we like turkey we didn’t want to have a much of turkey meat lift overs. We eat turkey a lot; this is the second time we brought the Jenie-O Turkey Breast. The first time was a few weeks ago when we had over another friend.

I personally, like turkey legs but hubby don’t much care for them, and neither one of us seem to eat the wings. The first time I made the turkey I was impress with how juicy it was. I had a concern because the breast meat wasn’t it typical white color, it was more of a nice lightish pink color but the liquid and my meat thermoitor was telling me the meat was done, along with the little pop up one they have in the turkey breast. I decided it would be okay to serve because I had my meat thermometer in the thickest part of the turkey. No one-got sick so I know I did it right.

The second time I made one was for Thanksgiving dinner, once again, I was surprised with the moistness of the turkey breast and the coloring of the meat surprised me a little It just a different kind of white color with a slightly pinker tint to it. Now I am color deficient so I might not be seeing the color right. Once again, both my thermometer told me it was ready to go, so I carved it up. It was so nice and moist again, and boy did it taste good. It was easy to cut into slice to. The meat was very tender.

When I cook my turkey I put some butter on the skin, and several different spices, I also pour a can of ginger ale over it, and I put about a cup of water in the bottom of the pan, so I can use enough juices for the stuffing and let me tell you it makes the stuffing taste good. I don’t know were I learned the ginger ale idea, I think it came from not having any chicken stock or turkey stock, and needing liquid and for some reason I couldn’t use the tap water where I lived, and that what I had. I don’t think the pop helped the turkey.  I doubt it would have helped the turkey, but maybe the pop gave it a little more kick. It worked the first time I used it and that turkey was moist, but this Jenie-O Turkey breast is the moistest I have ever had since I been cooking or eating turkeys.

We will be fatting dad up this weekend. He been sleep since he been here, I know he wants to go to the MOA so maybe I will take him if it gets warmer outside and no heat won’t kill us. :)

Overall thanksgiving went well. I did a lot of baking and I am glad everything turned out as good as it did. I would diffidently recommend Jenie-O turkey breast to other for thanksgiving or other holidays when it just a small gathering of people. It is simple to prepare and does not take long to cook. Plus it comes in enough sizes, so it is easy to pick what is best for the gathering.
