Dead Until Dark

I just got done reading “Dead Until Dark” by Charlaine Harris, she was my stopgap between another author and her book in a series. I was at Border needing to find something to read. I like mystery, suspense and romance, romance to a point. Now a good book is when all three get added together. “Dead Until Dark, is about a Vampire named Bill and his human Shookie.
Shookie’s got a problem she’s telepathic, which to say the less makes her life uncomfortable, and well dating just can’t happen. She meet Bill and she can’t read his mind, his mind is blank to her. Naturally she have to be attracted to him right? Shookie, I wouldn’t call her a plain girl but she not exactly educated neither.
Bill is attracted to her but tries to warn her about the danger like most novels with Vampires, they always seem so nice, but they always say they are bad. I think Harris done a great job of showing some of the evils, but she keeps it interesting and even though you know a human and vampire aught not to be together, you want to see Sookie and Bill together.
One thing for sure none of these vampires would be found on Mediterranean cruises, she has the vampires as newly unhidden people in the world. I really have enjoyed the plot line, and the other supernatural characters in her book.
My husband told me her age and I was surprised she wasn’t younger closer to my age, but boy does she right well, and very easy to follow. She had me within the first chapter of the first and second book. The Third book, I think the first chapter was a little harder to get through, sometimes it seems like she trying to explain to first time readers. This is probably a good thing because I can not tell you how many times I have picked up a book in a series and it wasn’t the first one. I have once grabbed the 3rd book in a series and that’s kind of funny. I can tell you I was lost and wish it was explained better.
I would not recommend the “Dead Until Dark” series to a young reader, there are some scenes I wouldn’t want a young reader reading. If I had a daughter, I wouldn’t introduce her to the book until she at least 16 to 18 years old. There is some disturbing things in the book, but I probably find them disturbing because of some personal experience. I don’t find talking about drinking blood or what not disturbing but when things start sounding like rape or is very rough. I don’t know it’s just unsettling.
I will say I am impressed that she does not feel the need to use G-d’s name in a crude manor. I don’t mind an occasional cuss word. Now G-d’s name is one of the thing I just don’t tolerate. Funny I can read Vampire books, and not be at all offended until they start using words that aren’t becoming. Charlaine Shows a ton of Talent with Words because she doesn’t have to get her point across by using a bunch of fowl language. I think her and my other favorite author are right close to running for my favorite author.

Came in for one

Last night I went to Borders, I need a new book. I just finished my Stephanie Meyer book “The Host”. I can’t wait for her next book which is coming out the first of next month. I probably should preorder that book. I was looking for some of her other books there but most of them, I was pointed to where rather short. I want a book to last me just a little more then a week if it’s short if not then it means I have to buy more then just one book.
The Host was a great book, when I would say I am just going to read one chapter then turn off the lights, and get some sleep. I would read a bunch more then just the one chapter, I just couldn’t put it down because I wanted to know what happen. Same thing happened with her vampire series I am reading right now.
Border isn’t to busy where I go normally but I did have a line to wait in this time. Lines aren’t bad. My husband had asked for some help locating some similar authors to Stephanie Meyer and they tried to help but we make their jobs just a touch harder. I want something very specific when reading, I feel a author should have the ability to get their point across with out cussing every couple of paragraphs. I feel that when they need to resort to swearing it just shows more of a lack of talent then talent. Now that being said, I don’t mind if there are a few words that are harsh. When I really start minding it’s when G-d name gets pulled in it in a ugly way.
They showed me about at least 6 authors they felt I might like. I came in for one book and walked out with three, I could have very easily walk out with all 6 but decided 3 would be plenty of books for me to read.
I was very impress with the amount of customer service I had received. A young man was helping me try to figure out some good books which I would enjoy. He wasn’t sure because he like reading books with harsh language and didn’t want to miss lead me. One of his coworkers was about to leave for the night, and stayed there to suggest a few books she thought I would like. I like romance, and suspense and what ever Stephanie is…. I think she might be a mix of the two to be honest because there always seems to be someone falling in love, with someone who is undesirable but you always want that love affair to work out for them.
Well She had lead me to another 4 authors, and suggested a few I simply needed to stay away from because I probably would find them less enjoyable. After I had figured out which 3 books I would take, I decided before I got another book, it was time to go. There was about 7 people in line. I have never seen that many in line before, when I got into line back up was called.
I checked out with a lady, and told her I shouldn’t have deleted my email. I wasn’t planning on coming in this week but I just couldn’t resist. She asked me if I remembered what the sales was. I told her I believed it was 25 percent off, but I think the email I look at had something for 40 percent off and something for 25 percent off couldn’t remember but remembered the 25 percent off. She gave me the 25 percent of which she didn’t have to do because I didn’t have my coupon, nor did I remember to bring my card. Speaking of that I have to find it where ever it went to.
I really do enjoy Borders even though they are a large book store it’s easy to find people who are willing and happy to help there.

Put the book down

At night before I fall a sleep, I read some. I am a picky reader, because I don’t like books who use G-d’s name in it in a ugly light. I don’t mind a few cuss words here and there I can handle that but not when it comes to taking G-d’s name in vane it one of my pep peeves. A couple weeks ago I got a new book from a Author, who I have read some of her young adult stuff. I started reading young adult because for the most I don’t have to skip over a bunch of cussing. I am also picky because if a author does not catch me with in the first chapter, I will probably not finish the book. I have plenty of books laying around unfinished because they didn’t catch me by the end of the first chapter, very seldomly will I read further. I will if I see promise in the book it might speed up and get better for reading..
I got “The Host” by Stephenie Meyer, it’s her newest book. I am looking forward to her next one coming out. “The Host” is about a alien race that’s pretty much has taken over earth and they live in human bodies controlling them. The main Alien is called Wanderer, but she not like the others, she has ended up caring for her human host and doesn’t want to bring her any pain. Eventually she ends up in a bad sistuation because her humans kind of hate her and don’t treat her well at all.
I have found it very hard to put this book down, I got to bed say, I am just going to read a chapter. Sometimes I read at 3 chapters then look at the clock and say Oh my it’s midnight I better go to bed. I I wake up early. So let me say thank you to Stephenie for writing so good that I don’t want to put it down.
Sometimes it’s easy to relate to her characters even if they are undesirable type of characters. Eventually things get better for Wander but then it seems like she might do something that wouldn’t end well for her. I am not sure how the book ends because I haven’t gotten there just yet.
Wander pretty much befriends the humans even after they treated her harshly and only 2 treated her with any amount of compassion.
I would recommend this book for even a younger reader if they can read at about a 5th grade reading level it may be higher then 5th grade for reading, but I know by the time I was in fifth grade I could read all the words in the book. I am surprised my lighting hasn’t burned out with how much I been using it. I do not recall reading any cuss words in this book, to be honest I don’t think I have ever read anything like that from this Author. I do know I enjoy her books a lot and normally I don’t enjoy many Authors. I just find I read through the authors I like very quickly and then I am lift with wanting more for a couple of years. Good thing I just found her a couple months ago because she got enough to keep me busy until the next one comes out soon.

The Vampire Diaries

I love reading many different things, but normally I like staying in the young adult books. Why would I like to do that, well because it easier to find books that my eyes don’t have to skip over half the page because of language, yes this is blowing it out of portion.
Last week my husband and I went to the book store, I needed a new book to read. Normally I do not go to Libraries because I don’t read well with a deadline. I am not sure why that is but when I get a book from the library I never finish it. In the book store I read one line out of the book, I was thumbing through it, it caught me. Elena was basically going to get this boy and wasn’t going to stop at anything.
Have you ever noticed books about Vampires for the most seem to be the woman swooning over the Vampire. I know, there are books out there where it’s the opposite. I read mostly at night, because it helps me wind down, some and be able to fall asleep, but some books just don’t let you put it down after a chapter. Starting our the book is hard to get through but it gets better, I think that the way it is with most books because the first couple of chapters always set the plot for the rest of the book.
Elena and her vampire Stephan, get close but in the end of the book you might not think they are all that close. Stephan tried to leave her alone because she was intoxicating to him and he didn’t want to bite her, but his brother came along and caused them trouble. If you want to know what kind of trouble I guess you will have to read the book.
By the end of the book, you where worried that Stephan would be in more trouble then he could handle because all he would eat where animals. Elena eventually goes up into Stephans boarding house, at last there where wine rack of Blood. Now wouldn’t you think that people would think it strange for a High School student to be living on his own, in a boarding house.
The author did keep with the myth of He most be invited into your dwelling place. One thing I found interesting was how she handled it, if it was a old house and had been built on to the vampire could only enter the part of the dwelling where he was invited if he wasn’t invited into the other part of the dwelling he was stuck looking in, and wanting. I never heard of this before, and would have thought both parts of the house once invited in would have been free gain. I think this added something because at one point Elena had to make a decision. If you want to find out what happens to Elena and Stephan I suggest reading the book.
The Vampire Diaries, are a set of 2 stories in the books. The author is LJ Smith. I am looking forward to getting the next set of stories from her. I like the way she has done her chapters, they are short but not to short. It is easy to follow her writing.
