  • Just great

    Posted on by Gav

Last week I wasn’t have a good week. I have a PSP slim which is great, or maybe I should say was great. The same people made the PS3, there products are great. Never had a problem until recently. My husband and I got me a new PSP this summer, and it started having troubles. I didn’t think much of it because normally it was just a minor thing. Well I went to use the bathroom and put it on top of my towel, next thing I knew the stupid thing was falling down. Great, It landed on my foot, and went to the flower. Well now it don’t work at all. I called the PSP people after taking it into where we purchased the thing, and was told they would need to deal with it. Well, I spoke to the gentle man from the PSP place, honest I was surprised they where opened, because it was last monday on Labor day. Well maybe it wasn’t a US person who answered, now since globalization makes things nice. hmmm it just got darker out, must be a storm. I spoke with him for a few minutes explained to him the problems I had before it dropped, and then told him now it’s not working at all. He asked a few questions and then asked if it was drop, I answered yes, but before it was dropped it was having issues. Well just great, my warranty is now no good, that just cute, I only had the thing for 2 months. Well the best thing he could give me was, we can take that one and sale you a new one for 89$ plus what ever the taxes, that would be great if I was made out of money. I will probably go for that route, since trading this in to the other place will give me 50 trade in credit and still have a 150 to go, depending on how many trade in credits hubby and I have saved. Okay, not happy, so I told him, we just had a death in the family, what is my cut of time, how long do I have to get this back to you. He gave me a work order number and told me do it at my earliest convence, I wonder if it takes me 6 months if they will still honor it. I am not seeing any way to do it any sooner then that since I got laid of but hey if I get a new job then it could be sooner then later, after I get my laptop. What I would have found very helpful since I only had it for 2 months for them to simply honor the warranty, and say next time it happens we won’t cover it.

  • Flash drive to the rescue

    Posted on by Gav

A couple months ago I got a Sony Microvault, it’s a 2 gig flash drive. Vista can use it as additional memory or you can store files on it. I had forgotten, I had it. I bought it with the intention of see if I could back up a couple of files.
I started classes last month, I am in my last week of the first class. The office sure does get hot, and I didn’t want to stay in there to long. I found the flash drive and decided I would see if it would work with my Vista computer and let me read on my XP computer, it did. Vista asked if I wanted to use it as memory, I decided not to because I need it for school right now more.
What I like about the flash drive is that the little USB port thing, goes inside of it’s self. This is great because I can’t some how manage to bend it in my bag for college, like I did with the one the school gave me. This pretty much keeps that from happening unless I forget about it in the computer and lay the computer on it.
I haven’t found anything I do not like about this product, I like everything. It’s small and convenient and easy to carry around with out having to worry about damaging it by accident. I am not saying it’s indusructable because like everything it can be broken. It was on sale, so it ended up being cheap. I knew Sony to be a good brand for electronics, so knowing this help me decide to buy it. Like trying to pick out the best acne treatments, it’s wise to go with something you know is a good brand to begin with.

  • My experience at Umbria Gourmet pizza

    Posted on by Gav

Last night my husband and I decided to try Umbria Gourmet Pizza here in Bloomington. We had never been there but had seen it little store a few times. The thing I would like to know is how they came up with Umbria, and what does it mean. It reminds both myself and hubby of a Umbrella, I wonder if that what’s behind the name.
They advertised that they sold pizza by the slice, more like one type of pizza by the slice. Last night it was Sausage, which isn’t going to happen for my husband or myself. We decided to go with their 8 inch personal pizza each. Their crust is fairly thick but it was good, although I do prefer another brand of crust. I older the Pineapple and my husband order the roast beef. Both of the pizza looked appealing to the eyes. I honestly can’t tell you what they smelt like because I can’t smell anything right now. The joys of late summer allergies.
The pineapples where huge and very nice looking. It tasted good to, my husband told me I could have more then pineapple but that’s all I wanted was a nice and sweet pizzza. The pizza tasted nice, they served it to us hot, but by the time it got home it wasn’t so hot. It still tasted good but what pizza can’t you just take right out of the freg and eat it.
My husband pizza looked like it had a fair amount of beef, no need to ask where’s the beef.
The customer service could have been improved a little but not to much. I guess since it was our first time they didn’t want to rush us but when we were asking question to each other, it would have been nice if they would have answered. When we went up to the counter they answer our question, and where polite. So maybe they just did not want to interrupt us.
I like Pizza so much better then massage therapy, comfort by food is the best.

  • Steve Auto

    Posted on by Gav

Well, I decided it be nice to talk about my mechanic in St. Paul Mn. He is wonderful. My husband and I have known him for a year or maybe 2, I am not sure to be honest. I was having some care troubles and my mechanic at the time, wasn’t returning my car or my husband car in a timely manor. This got to be frustrating because my husband and I don’t always work close enough to each other to be down a car for a long period. Right now we are down a car. It been kind of frustrating because lets face it, I am the one with the Van. City driving I get somewhere between 17 to 18 miles per gallon, hwy driving a lot better at least somewhere between 20 and 22 miles, which still isn’t great. We live a good half hour from Steve’s, sometimes we don’t go straight to him, but I think we should stop going to others.
When my husband car first broke down he got it to a mechanic here in our city, although, I had told my husband get it towed to Steve. He chose to try someone a neighbor told us. The garage my husband was referred to wanted close to 750. Then we talked to Steve about the troubles. Yesterday I called Steve to talk to him about what I owe him. Normally he don’t give people credit but he decided to help me out of a rough spot. While talking to Steve, he told me, my husband car could be fixed for under 530$. So being that Steve labor isn’t that much different then this other garage and well who knows about parts at the other place. But I know Steve doesn’t mark up a huge amount on the parts, the mark up is so insignificant that I don’t remember what he told me. I have no problem paying a little extra. I know when I get my van or my husband car back it will be done right, and if something goes wrong it will be taken care of with no additional charge.
During the fall I needed a fuel regulator put into the van, I had just replaced it with another mechanic. Driving home one night I started smelling a strong smell of gas and it worried me. I got home and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong or at least where the gas smell came from. Well, I ended up needing later that day to run to a store a mile away. I got into the parking lot and the engine was steaming, I opened the hood and there was gas leaking all over the place, the top of my van hood was soaked in gas. I got upset, because I had just fixed it. I got the van home and called Steve Auto. He was there and told me to bring it in to him. I did, and he put in a new regulator. I think a few days went by and all the sudden I was leaking gas from the regulator. Now I am ticked because it two mechanic same job and same thing broken. I called Steve, he told me bring it back and he was warrantying the regulator and not to worry about it. Well I got it back to him and he fixed the problem.
I think I have found some trophies in Steve Auto’s. He is honest, sincere and nows how to treat his customers. He admits to things also which is important it shows a great amount of integrity.
There isn’t anything I dislike about him. But I will say like all garages sometimes it does take a little time to get back the car. I will say he likes to talk a lot, he is a talker but he does a great job on getting the job done right the first time. He also will not take advantage of people who do not have car knowledge, or woman. I have been to plenty before Steve who try to take advantage of me because I am a woman which isn’t good because I have car knowledge, so it a little harder to miss lead me. Need your car fix and your in the Twin city area of MN might want to give Steve Auto a try.

  • I don’t think so

I have a Creative Live Cam, Video IM Pro. it specs says I should get 30 frames a minute. Lets see my husband computers gets about maybe 3 frames a second, my laptop which is 3 years older gets between 8 and 15 frames per second. Now I like to know how that is possible, my laptop is older then my husband computer by close to 3 years. I will probably eventually either need to think about getting a new Laptop, but I love this one so much, or I will need to get more laptop memory. Wow, my memory according to the computer shouldn’t be running it it’s just slightly lower. Maybe I do need to put a little bit more memory in here. It a good laptop but old it’s 3 years old, but honestly if I got another 7 to 8 years from this computer it wouldn’t shock me. Well back to the camera.
The system requirements are Intel Celeron 1.7GHz or Equivalent Processor, Windows, XP but is made for Vista, 256 MB of Ram, I got plenty of that, 500MB of HDD, CD-Rom, and a USB Port. If your system meets these requirements then you should be able to get the 30 frames a minutes, at least that how I see it. I will have to look at my desktop which crashed each time I tried to install it but that was with my old harddrive which was crashing alot.
This camera has smart face tracking well personally I don’t think it did a very good job of tracking my face nor my husband, but that problem may be caused by lighting. With out the right lighting it’s probably hard for the camera to follow the face. The Still image capture works pretty well, that is how I did my first video blog, was by using still images because I don’t like hearing my voice. I never used the mic other then to test it, it worked okay. This is a good camera for the price that I have paid for it. I would recommend it for people who don’t mind not having the professional looking stuff.

  • I love my Laptop

    Posted on by Gav

I have had my Toshiba laptop for about 3 years. I bought it at Best Buy with my tax money, I was in college and felt I needed a laptop for school to make taking classes easier on me. My desktop computer was not doing what I needed it to do for my classes. I am on a live of absent but still use my laptop daily. It is easier for me to type because I am used to typing on my laptop more then any other computer, I type more words a minute on it to..
My computer has not crashed once, since I have gotten it. I have gotten a couple of bad viruses which I was able to clean it out of the computer with our having to lose any information. When I got my Toshiba it was on sale and was the best deal in the store so I got it. It has started slowing down in recent months and now I have a cooler for the laptop. I think it is starting to show it age but I know I can get a lot more use out of the computer. I have only had the current cooler for few months and it already not working right, I will need to get another one soon.
With my laptop I have been very careful, I make sure I get it’s updates, and run a virus scan on all emails coming in, and don’t download many files unless I know it is safe. I learned my lesson when downloading TV shows that it’s just to easy to crash a computer. I have had no troubles with my Laptop, the CDR still reads and rights, well it better considering the computer only 3 years old almost. I still have plenty of room in my computer. Now it did not like the Idea of downloading my MP3 player, so that went to the desktop. I am thinking it just has something to do with the software more then the computer, because it had no problem downloading my Webcam stuff, and I have been able to do some videos. I should take a few of Otis. Otis is my cat.
When the time comes to get a new laptop I will get another Toshiba, this is my second Toshiba, my first one I gave to my friend, who still has it and that laptop is about 10 years old now. Wow that thing has ran a long time! Toshiba so far has shown me they build good quality stuff and I hope they continue to do so. One thing I would change with my Laptop is what all it came with, I wish they would have preload Office student so I didn’t have to spend money on that, but I am still very happy with my computer. Everything still work good.

  • PC Cillin

PC Cillin, good thing I am not allergic to it. I have been using PC Cillin by Trend Micro for a little over a year. Before them I was using another brand but every time the subscription was almost over I would suddenly get very old viruses in my computers. Strange I thought, the last time I dealt with them was when my husband and I had took a long time to clean my laptop computer out. the operator told me he could fix my computer remotely for 70 bucks. I told him several times hey I already fixed my computer, my husband and I now how to do that already.
Well I got sick of it. I decided I would try a new software, at the time my husband computer wasn’t protected so I got the PC Cillin internet Security. I think this was a wise choice. I went right into the last week of when my subscription would be covered and no really old or new viruses. This makes me think that maybe the other company is causing viruses to attack people computers when they are at the end of their subscription to get them to see how much they need the detector. I think that unethical but that okay, they can do what they would like.
PC Cillin I have not had any real troubles with, it is very easy to use. Sometimes it drives me batty it likes to tell me when I am using a word similar to my password. Before I renewed my subscription I decided to look at other virus detectors make sure I had the best thing for me. I found that PC Cillin for the amount of money I wanted to spend it was the best deal. It is like looking for cheap Phentermine, it’s important to make sure you have the best deal. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being very happy and 1 being not happy at all, I would say it would rank about a 8.5.

  • My new Insignia

    Posted on by Gav

A couple days ago I got tired of my little portable radio at work. To be honest I been tired of it for a while, every time my cellphone would get a call I would suddenly hear that, even before my phone was telling me I was getting a call. My husband for a while was trying to sale me on getting a Ipod when we had money. I have tried a couple at the Apple, and didn’t like it. It was hard to use, this was about a year ago, so I decided I wanted nothing to do with a MP3 player, since I couldn’t get it to work correctly in the store.
I am pretty tech smart, so usually I can figure out how to use electronics, there are few I can’t figure out. Well my old radio started having trouble holding a charge on it’s battery and I didn’t want to keep replacing AAA batteries they aren’t exactly cheap. My husband a couple weeks ago go a Insignia and seemed happy with it. It had 4 gigs of memory and was red. I think his favorite color might be red.
Well we went back to Best Buy this week for me. My husband and I had looked at other models together when he was looking for his self, so I basically did all the work I needed to do. The Insignia brand seemed easy to me, so I might as well give it a try right.
Buying a MP3 player or an Ipod is similar to buying the right Franke sinks for your house. You have to make sure it matches with your personality, or your likes. If it doesn’t your probably not going to be very happy with it.
The Insignia that I got comes in 3 colors; red, black and blue. I got the blue one with 4 Gigs of memory. Well I took it home and downloaded it software into my laptop. My laptop decided No, I don’t wanna do this for you, so I am going to not start up when it tells you to do so. So laptop didn’t to start, fine. Took it to the bedroom desktop computer, with Vista. It downloaded very quickly and I didn’t even need to restart the computer for it to work.
Let me start by saying the instruction on how to use it is not clear. Make sure you first install all of the software then plug in your Insignia. There are a couple of ways you can transfer songs into your player, it not to hard. Just know that you need to move songs from your “my song list” to get it to work. I tried getting it to do so from the CD but it didn’t think that was a good idea.
My little MP3 player has FM radio on it. I listen to it for a while, it good. When I get a phone call or text message it does not tell me it coming before it gets to my phone. Honestly I don’t think the Video player is all that good it so tiny that well it just not worth watching video or shows on, but I didn’t buy it for that. I got it, so I could listen to songs I like, sermons that I didn’t get to listen to yet, and maybe a couple of audio books.
I really have enjoyed my new little player it is very light weight, easy to forget it in the pockets or where it is at. I will have to make sure, when I do laundry not to do the boneheaded thing of leave it in my pockets so it can be washed. It is easy to turn up the volume or turn down, and easy to navigate through it. I was able to find everything that I needed right away.
So far I have no dislikes, and only likes.

  • No more computer issues

    Posted on by Gav

I got a new hard drive and a wi-fi card for the computer though newegg.com, my husband got them for me.  When my last hard drive crashed we where less then a week out of our warranty and HP did not want to help us other then charge us a extra 30 bucks to tell us that the hard drive was not good which we already knew and would want to chard us another 300 bucks if not more to get the computer up and running after the install of the OS system. Our Rabbi was able to get the old drive up with Window Vista, and we were grateful and hoping to put a second hard drive in there but found our we did not need a second hard drive for what I need but found our it was my sound card that was the problem. The sound card is good but not for home recording it not a full duplex sound card meaning that it can’t play and record at the same time.  My old drive while installing different things in it kept crashing on me and became a real pain in the backside. Hubby and I decided it be best to get a new hard drive, and put Vista on the new one. I am finding I like Window Vista. The thing I don’t like about Vista is there no games in Vista Business, personally I like a couple of the games. I can down load those probably.

We Got a Seagate Barracuda 7200 hard drive with 250 Gig of space. It works great not catching or anything. The computer actually works better then when we had XP on it, it running fast. It was simple to install Window Vista, I had no trouble. I just had to open my CDRom and put in the Vista and Vista pretty much did it all for me. It took maybe a hour to do this, they didn’t even want me to call them but that probably because i forgot to activate my copy, and had 3 days lift to activate. The only thing we did not like about the hard drive thing it did not come with the cable for it, and did not say it, at least I do not think it did.

My Wi-Fi card was a ASUS WL-138g V2 PCI Wireless Adapter. I did not even need to use the CD to get this to work. When Vista install it install the drivers and everything I needed and was able to get on line right away. This is great. The internet speed is great better then my Laptop which is good. My desktop computer is in our spear bedroom that I am using for a office recording studio type thing. My Router is in the living room not to far away but has to work through the walls. I have full strength on the Wi-Fi card connectivity. I only had to find my server, and then enter my password and I was all set to go and was able to surf on line quickly.

Newegg once again did a great job of getting our product to us right away, even though hubby never got a email in his in box. I personally think their email went to his junk mail and he deleted it. When he went to their site he was able to find what he needed quickly. To be honest when he was telling me he didn’t get a email I was a little worried because it seemed odd, but we got it on Thursday and I been able to use the computer since Friday. I really do like the computer again. I think hubby and I can build our own computers now. We had our Rabbi install the stuff for us just to make sure it right, but he had us install the OS. I have installed things into computers a few times but never a new hard drive and to be honest that kindof scared me because what I need this computer for. Now in order to deal with the sound card I will need to increase the power supply. Would you believe HP put a 300 W power supply in there, when most makers stop using that like 10 years ago. Most computer have a 500w supply.

  • I am so Glad

    Posted on by Gav

On Friday afternoon, I order a monitor from Newegg.com they are for computer builders, my husband and I have decided to start doing this if things work out well with our first orders. I ordered a HANNS*G Monitor from them, I was impressed with how  quickly they processed and then shipped out my order. A little after 3pm I checked emails, and found out that they had already shipped my monitor out to me. Wow impressive that never happened before when I order things for delivery it always been a couple days wait before they send it out and then require a 7 to 10 day wait. I was glad to see Newegg options where so quick for me.

A couple weeks ago I broke my monitor, so it was time to get one. I had the monitor for 10 years, so I didn’t get to see much to be honest. I spent just a little over 200 including shipping and warranty this is great, because it was less then I would have at one of my normal places. I got my monitor today. It is a 19 inch, the only problem is one of the pixels is burned out. I don’t really care because I wouldn’t have noticed it without my husband telling me it was burned out. The monitor comes with speakers but I haven’t tried those, and to be honest I might not because I haven’t heard any good things about the speakers. I might use them to see for my self, but first I need to wait for my husband order. We got me a 2nd hard drive because my current one is having some issues.  I hope Vista won’t be to much of problem if I have to put it on a different hard drive because the current one keeps malfunctioning.

Back the the monitor. The hard thing on the monitor for me is changing the color and the contrast on the screen. The reason why it needs to be done differently then I am used to with my accent Monitor. My old monitor is a little easier to change that, but after I get used to how this one works it will become easy. The monitor stand only tips up and down there is no side ways movement which I guess is okay I can do with out that. My old monitor well was a fire hazard or getting to become with and didn’t move in any direction after I broke it. Having a 19 inch monitor is great, I can see the screen from across the room, I love it.
