  • An American Carol

I will say my husband and I have two different taste in comedies. This one I didn’t like much, good thing I was doing my homework while watching it. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t my type of movie.
At first it seems more of a insult on conservative people, but in the end it more toward the liberal sect of the United States.
What I dislike is they didn’t use anyone from middle eastern descent which they should of, and they where kind of insulting toward them. Plus I didn’t like the fact that it seemed they where just picking on them during the whole movie. Okay yes we have been terrorized but that doesn’t mean every single muslim is a terrorist. Yes I agree we have forgot about 9/11 and I believe our President has forgotten about it and doesn’t understand what has happened there, or at least he doesn’t act like it. 9/11 is something many Americans have forgotten about, and we aren’t as safe as we think we are, that something we learned than, well maybe some of us learned it. Personally I wouldn’t want to talk to terrorist with out some type of agreement being made before hand. But that me…. I guess this movie is trying to show that.
One of my more favorite parts was when they had the angel of death come to Micheal in his dreams, kind of the christmas carol spin on it.
I personally wouldn’t have choice this movie for watching but my husband likes movie like this. There where no strikes in it which is good and that earns some points in my book. This movie does a good job at making fun of liberals who think we are all safe, I will give them points for that. I do not think this movie shines any light on anything of use to be honest maybe they should have gotten more discount lighting.

  • Twilight

    Posted on by Gav

I have heard many reviews about this movie, before I went and saw it. I have read of all Stephanie books on from this series. Twilight was done okay as far as movies, and I liked it. There was no real langauge and for the most the people who wrote or directed the movie did a fairly good job of keeping within the spirit of the story.
I will say they did some things I didn’t much care for like introducing Jacob to Bella a lot sooner then the book introduced them to each other. They rushed Bella and Edwards relationship but honestly how focused can you get with a 2 hour movie when there is a lot of stuff to cover in such a short time, so I think their speed eventhough it was faster then I would have liked it to be was probably about the right pace for their romance.
The fight sceen wasn’t as long as I thought it was in the book and I thought in the book Bella was a lot more injured then she appeared in the movie, but come on it what a PG13 movie, so how voilent do we want it to get. Lets face it this movie is geared toward young adult/ teens so it’s best to keep it safe.
I appreciated the fact that they kept Bella pure. I would recommend this as a good date night movie. My husband and I enjoyed it on the maga screen. As I said a few scenes I would have liked to see more of but other wise I found it enjoyable. I did not go in with the expectation it would be like the book.
I pictured Edwards house a little different, Boy I like to see their credit card article on making this movie. I know that it seems that they broke the record this year. If you have read the book like me and aren’t so tied into everything must be exactly the same this will be a enjoyable movie.

  • Brotherhood Of Blood

    Posted on by Gav

I will say this movie is one of the worst vampire movies I have ever seen. Boy, I not being nice today on my reviews. I will say we have 6 of the 8 movies hubby got to review done and this is a good thing. I have seen other shows and movies do a far better job of creating vampires. Brotherhood of Blood wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great, it’s not really a scary movie neither and has a lot of blood but not so much that it seems like it just gore but there is still a lot of blood.
I will say their mythology is a little different then what I am used to, I am used to the vampire jaw appearing normal until they decide it’s time to bite the person. I would say that even TRUBLOOD did better at creating their vampires then this movie did. Even to go back further BUFFY and ANGEL did better with their vampires and they are very old show with less technology then there is presently. The vampire teeth in this movie looked dall and to big.
There was a group of vampire hunters, I thought a vampire and hunter had another messy relationship and sure I was right. The vampire hunters looked for vampires and had their head quarters they had some security systems that looked like it would have worked great if it wasn’t so old. There house was broke into by the vampires, they captured one and did some torturing of him. It wasn’t to horrible.
There mythology was strange on how you contract vampirism, it was you had to be bite, all mythology I am familair with is that the vampire and victim had to trade blood at least once some are more. Some require the person to be totally drained almost then trade so not sure what these guys where thinking but okay maybe it’s another myth that not a well known one.
Do I recommend watching it not really, but it not horrible so I guess if someone wants to more power to them. I haven’t given away the end of the movie or anything. Considering in every movie with the vampire hunter there always a relationship that messed up.

  • The Last House in the Woods

    Posted on by Gav

I will say this movie was not worth it’s weight in salt. Last night my husband and I tried to watch ” The Last House in the Woods. I will say this isn’t viewing for a sensitive viewer. This movie from the start was very violent and graphic. I would say that they went over board.
The first sceen of the movie was a man and wife with their son, riding home, they hit a tree dad died. The mom went to try to call for help with her son, and a car came, she sent her son to hide in the woods this was probably wise of her to do or he would have been hit too. She was hit by the van intentionally. After she was hit the man came out and she was still a live so he bashed her head in with a rock. Then stuck her in the van, the kid saw all this, okay that was intense.
We kept it on through that, and watched it a little longer.
Be warned there is a Rape sceen which was not told about on the box of this movie. I think something like this needs to be put on the box considering the rape was very violent I will not talk about that sceen. About 5 minutes of that Scene I couldn’t take it anymore and had to turn off the movie.
I wouldn’t recommend this movie for anyone. This isn’t a good lets get scared this is a movie of simply gore and no creative planning. This was an unrated movie, sometimes unrated is okay but for the most it’s not. I would have recommended a rating of NC17, with a warning on violence.

  • Room 205

    Posted on by Gav

I think this is a foreign film actually I am positive it is. Room 205 seems to be about a college dorm room which is haunted by the girl in the mirror who gets released. This isn’t a very scary movie, and I am surprised it was rated R. I was surprised my husband and I watch it all the way through and not once did it hit a strike in our rules.
The person who I was thinking would be the most likely victim wasn’t a victim I was glad she wasn’t but she was fairly tramatized by the ghost. They would see the future in the mirror, or at least that they would die or something. It was strange because this girl was more suseptable to seeing this ghost.
It had some of the typical college guy girl stuff, and showed how sometimes men will act toward a girl after they do it, but frankly she should have never done anything with him, I think she might have realized this because of how she acted afterwards. The dorm played a prank on her and she broke the bathroom mirror realizing the ghost who was wanting revenge for what had happened to her. It didn’t come clear until toward the end of the movie why she was there causing trouble. A good portion of the main characters had this ghost revenge taken out on them but it looked like the ghost thing happened to her a long time ago. How horrible, I will say they where very tasteful in the sceen and didn’t show to much of it. I was glad because that the last thing I want to see or read about.
I wouldn’t say this movie is a keeper but it might be a good halloween movie if your not interested in Gore or gross stuff. I probably will never watch this movie again it good for maybe watching one time.

  • Six Sense

    Posted on by Gav

Last weekend my husband and I watched this movie, we got it as a reviewable which I was a little surprised because it been out forever. It’s from M Night, and sorry I won’t attempt his last name. I have tired to watch this movie 3 times and finally was able to watch it all the way through. I had it on VHS but for some reason it didn’t play right and got staticy in the middle, then I rented it from Netflex, and it was damaged when it came to me. Finally one that wasn’t damaged.
Six sense is about a guy who a child psycologist, he wins a reward and get shot. After he shot he starts helping a boy deal with the same problem as the kid who shot him. I will say I was surprised that was Donnie Walburg, looked very different then he normally does. The boy sees dead people, and is not handling it well. Eventually they figure out he has to help the dead people, and does help with a child ghost.
Now I was able to figure out the guy who was working with the kid was dead about half way through the film. Here’s how, the only one who interacted with this him was the kid. His wife acted like he wasn’t around in the restaurant I found that strange at first but after a few more scenes of him not being responded to I was able to figure out he probably dead. I will say I didn’t figure it out within the first 20 minutes, sometimes I feel like a compact flash because I figure out the end plot of movies within 10 minutes. My husband sometimes will try to talk about new movies because he will read it, I don’t tell him I don’t want to her to be mean but because I want to enjoy it with him. Okay I can’t read reviews because then it would make no sense in watching the movie because I already know how it will play out. I like a little mystery. M. Night seems to do pretty good at keeping a mystery in his movies.

I will say watching the cut or deleted sense were fun, but I am glad he took them out because it would have been a little to repetitive.

  • Trublood Tv Series

    Posted on by Gav

My husband and I got interested, we both have been reading the Sookie series, the Southern Vampire mysteries by Charliane Harris. So when we found out about Tru Blood coming from the book we where interested. Since it on HBO, I believe and we don’t get that station my husband has a site which gives downloads for TV shows. We were glad to see this one would be here.
This is not a Tv show for a young veiwer, there is some harsh language, nudity, and some violence. and as the show progress I am betting it will get worst on the violence. I wouldn’t recommend it for a sensitive viewer niether. I believe Charliane Harris is writing the first several episodes so right now it is following the first book pretty closely. She has added some content into the TV show because there are something which need a little more clarity when watching. Overall my husband and I have liked this show. Even with some of the things we don’t much care for.
The main characters is Shookie and vampire Bill, Jason and Tara, oh and lets not forget about her granny. I am glad that the tv show and book are closely related and I hope they keep it this way. I am wondering who they are going to have play Eric he’s the one character in the book I am wondering about and Pam. This aught to be interesting if they get the right actors/actress.
Lately I am drawn to things I am reading like a magnets, maybe now we’ll start seeing the author outside of our major book stores and in Target or Wal-Mart book area. Although my membership gives me great deals.

  • Prom Night

    Posted on by Gav

My husband and I watched Prom Night tonight the one that was a remake of the origanal movie. What I hear is it is nothing like the Origanal movie I wouldn’t now because horror isn’t normally my type of movie but it seems my husband enjoys them.
Lets see it wasn’t overly gross and some of the scenes they did very tastfully, and it wasn’t just 100 percent blood and guits which is good. The movie did not hit our 3 strike and your out rule which is good and unexpected.
It’s about a group of kids who have their prom in a very nice hotel, the lead girl family was murdered and her mom was murdered in front of her. Then later the guy managed to excape from his prision and cause some more real truma in the girl life. She lived with family, who lived in the same town so she didn’t have to leave her high school after her parents.
What I liked about this horror film is they didn’t kill her, eventhough most horror films kill everyone who a main character. Now the hotel was totally unrealistic in my opinion my prom was at a nice hotel but not one that nice.
No high school is going to have a hotel that high class, I mean it would be like a the senior class going on a cruises, which probably will not happen.

  • August Rush

    Posted on by Gav

The previews of this movie intrigue me. I finally got it today in the mail, I can’t say I was disappointed. August rush is about a boy who is roughly 12 years old who wants to find his parents, both of them were musicians and he inherited the gift from them.
August ended up being in a group home or orphanage but I don’t think in the late 90′s there were many of those lift. He was bullied a lot by the other kids who lived in the home, and eventually ended up running away from there to be able to find his parents. He ended up finding a boy who was playing guitar on the streets in NY, who was caught up with a crazy man. August showed he had a great amount musical talent and the guy was a leech. He was probably unsafe and frankly any man that unstable I am sure the police force wouldn’t have let him out and would have placed the children in a safe home. The dude was like on those diet pills that make a person all jumpy.
He eventually finds a church, which has a orphanage of black children and starts hiding there under one of the beds. Eventually he ends up directing the New York orchestras I believe. I won’t say what happened in the end of the movie but it was pretty good. It seemed to have ended abrutly.

  • Monster squad

    Posted on by Gav

My hubby decided to rent monster squad this was a movie made in the late 1980′s. When he told me what it was about, I thought it would be interesting. Lets see their creepy old German neighbor was a Jewish survive even though it wasn’t clear in the movie or at least not said verbally. The character said that he had seen many monsters in his day. When he closed the door it showed the tattoo had received. This was a movie supposed to be meant for younger children but honestly, I do not think they got the point across very well here. That was a very adult type of foreshadowing…..
The movie had hit our most disliked word two times. They had Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf, mummy, and a dark lagoon character. Personally I do not think they did a very good job of picking out Dracula, he didn’t really look a vampire or any undead person. He didn’t even look pale like most descriptions I have read of vampires but this was the late 80′s so maybe they just didn’t have a good clue.
The town kids had a monster club but when the monsters came they where ready to fight. This was a interesting movie, but I wouldn’t recommend it for children. I would say maybe at least 13 years old would be okay but it is still questions. I wonder if they had NC health insurance. By the end of the movie the creepy neighbor had made friends with the kids and pretty much saved the town with them.
