I have to admit, I took out a lot of frustration on the person on the phone for my apartment complex. I finally got fed up with a lack of information, being told one day I had a credit then I owed money and it just got confusing. I finally told the rental person, when I started feeling my lease was not being followed that I was gonna call someone and find out what my legal right were here in Oregon as a renter. I was not a happy person even if it was under 30$ they told me I owed. Our property manager was told that I was angry and she needed to talk to me. I bet she was thinking she’d rather find the best annuity rates, then talk to a resident threatening to find out their rights as a resident.
She went through the ledger of my account and found something which should not have happened, like us being charged a deposit for a mental health dog for dad. She couldn’t figure out the other deposit amounts and how the last company came up with the figures. What we found out was that my file was pretty much spread through out their entire office and in the break room. Wow that is bad! The last management team has burned a bridge down I think. Once the new landlord figured everything out. She told us my cat a pet wasn’t being charged, I told her well he needs to be charged for. The dog and cat both where charged a deposit price. Now we have a credit on the account. I do not know if I should jump up and down and be happy or if I should simply not trust it.
At least the landlord did not think I was yelling at the office staff and that I was being direct. She told us that all it takes is for one bad experience for a resident and than they respond based on their experience. I think she might be right. We had shared with her some of the struggles in the last place, so I am pretty sure we proved her theory some more.
