  • Ram Restaurant in Clackamas Mall

My husband and I often will eat at RAM for our date nights, we are well known. I would say probably most of management know us, and we normally end up with the same staff person, so normally I do not have to remind them of my allergies. My waitress knows them almost as well as my husband. We are familiar faces and will talk to everyone. Last night our experience was good except for one thing that happened. I probably was sharp with the poor busboy who served our food. I have been wanting a juicy hamburger so I order the Huskie burger with the gluten-free bun and the coleslaw. My husband ordered the french deep sandwich on a gluten-free bun and extra crispy fries. Simple order not to far off what I normally order. I didn’t remind the waitress of my allergy because she already knew what I needed. We had promote service and meet a new manager in training. He was friendly and nice. I had no problem with the service and honest think they was more worried about the error than me.
My hamburger came back with bacon on it. Pork is a more serious allergy than wheat, wheat if I am cross contaminated with I break out, get a upset stomach that last a while and get blisters in my mouth. Unpleasant yes but pork my reaction is way worst than that.. Pork I start having resp troubles, break out in hives, and well my stomach will send it back from where it came. Trying to be polite. It unpleasant. I also got my husband fries and he got my coleslaw. My response to the busboy was I am allergic to almost everything on my plate except for the bun, and even that I can’t have! They took it back and remade it. The manager in training and our poor waitress came back and apologize. I told them not to worry it happens. I don’t get mad often when I do it’s normally because I have felt not heard, and feeling not heard will make me get angry faster than having the problem dealt with.
Ram is good I trust them with my allergies because I have never had a allergic reaction there. I have never needed to take allergy meds after eating there. The staff there is always friendly to us. Some staff will tease my husband and I. I don’t mind being teased but sometimes I get annoyed. Overall I am happy with our experience there.

Last night my husband and I went to Chipotle, normally their staff are well trained but last night the guy who was helping didn’t get it. He kept handling things other then what he was supposed to, needed to be told that the counter needed to be wiped down, that he needed to hold things with a napkin. Finally one of his coworkers who know my husband and I well, because we go there fairly often. Close to home and walking distance so date nights it’s a frequent hunt. I told their manager that he needed more training.

  • Sharis Restaurant in Clackmas

Sunday night my husband and I took dad to Shari’s for dinner, he wanted french toast and bacon. I can eat a few items at Sharis so it’s not to bad of a place. Our waitress needed a bit better listening skills but she was good. I am figuring she doesn’t understand food allergies or gluten allergies because she put bread on my plate. It wasn’t a type that I thought would cause me any real stomach pains so I gave dad the bread, well I was probably a bit wrong. It caused me a few problems but that okay, i should have sent it back. Overall the food was pretty good. I had Salmon it was okay, but I have to say I think i would have cooked it better then the cook did. It was a bit on the bland side even for me who likes bland foods more.
Now had they had a wall fountains I would have expected the food to be a lot better. But for the type of restaurant they are, they are good. The food was hot, and it tasted good. I had their apple cinnamon with the potato pancakes i had. Those were very good and what i expected of the two items.

  • Schmizza

Tonight my husband and I decided to try Schmizza, this was not a wise choice. If you are Gluten-Free do NOT go here! I am allergic to wheat products and we ate here within 15 minutes of eating I started to break out in hives, and got stomach issues. They where not knowledgeable in their products it seemed they where under trained. So gluten-free and schmizza does not work well. I mean it not like I was trying to find out how does vicerex work? I was trying to figure out what products were unsafe for me to eat. Well I know this is a place i will not go again. No thanks to itchyness.

The pizza was floppy, the chicken was not seasoned well. I was not impressed with it. The chicken wings, where grease but I think they tasted best. Not a worth the money we spent. I will say they were clean! If your not gluten allergic this might be a okay place to eat.

  • Always good at Racha

Tonight we did Racha again. I never get a upset stomach from there so this is the best place. The cost isn’t to bad, they a little higher cost but worth it. I love the fact I have a lot of gluten free options. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. It was served hot and with brown rice. Okay I would rather have white rice but I have to admit I enjoyed their brown rice. We are always happy with the food there.

  • Birthday Cupcake from Crave

Yum yum yummy. I didn’t much care for the frosting but I am not a big frosting fan. However there frosting was pretty good it was light and tasted okay. Being not a fan, I try not to critize it to much it just a preference. There was no lodge furniture, there was no where to sit and visit but that okay. Their birthday cake cupcake was very good. I enjoyed it, it was smooth, and wasn’t dry like most gluten-free things are. They have done a great job on making gluten free worth while. Oh and did i say it’s all Gluten free there, so I can eat everything and anything they have and oh boy that so good for me.

  • Crave Gluten Free Bake Shop

The other day my husband and I made a trip to the bakery that was on foodnet work Cupcake wars. I am glad we went and it was nice. They have great customer service. I wish we would have gotten there earlier, because most of their selection was gone by the time we made it, and it was about 30 minutes before it was time to close. So i can understand the low stock especially since they gluten free and you do not want to make to much of that especially if you can’t sale it all. I am pretty sure they are selling good. They even had gluten-free dog treats. I think I found my new favorite place. Gonna have to try to get there on a Friday because it’s donuts day. Oh one word that comes to mind when i think of this place, Yummy.

Tonight I picked dad up a hamburger he’d eat one every night if I let him. I have to say I am surprised how heavy their burgers are, at least a pound. Dad eats the whole thing so they must taste very good to him, I am not sure I can’t eat them. It does smell good if I could eat it, i might not like it. I am not big on fast food. To bad I don’t have any redenvelope coupons for them because they are a lot more expensive then Burger king or McDonalds.

  • Mediterranean Grill in Happy Valley Oregon

    Posted on by Gav

I have to say I am so glad we moved to Oregon, many restaurants understand when I ask about gluten-free they understand it, I could never have a food Tester Jobs because of all my food allergies. Last night we went to Mediterranean Grill, and it was good. Dad had a Mediterranean, wow talk about huge! It was so big I dont think it would have fit in his mouth. It was made with pickles, a nice size beef patty, fries, and some other stuff i couldnt tell what it was. Dad really enjoyed it he ate most of it which surprised me. He didn’t like the fries inside the burger so next time we will need to ask them not to put fries in it.
My husband and I both had a combination plater with rice. They were able to adapt the plate so that it was gluten-free for me. I have to say I didn’t care for the rice, but the meat was good. the rice needed some type of seasoning but with being gluten-free that wasn’t a option for the cook. So I can’t blame them on my dislike of the lack of spices.. 🙂
Overall the experience was pleasant. The staff there was great. The gentleman who owned the store told us about the pictures on the walls and by goodness they were beautiful makes me want to take a trip out there myself to see it.
It was very nice there. The price wasn’t bad about 40 to feed a family of three which is a little more on the high side of what I like to spend but it was worth it.

  • Menchie’s

    Posted on by Gav

My husband and I wanted something sweet the other day. So we stopped in at Mechie’s in happy valley near Target. I liked them you get to pick the yogurt you want, can mix different flavors then there are lots of topping to choose from. I have to be careful of wheat and MSG products. I was able to find a couple of things I could have. I really liked it there. We didn’t have any left over so I bought dad a small icecream from target. I am not sure why his contianer ended up in the composter but it should have found it way to the trash.

The guy at Menchie’s explain how it worked to my husband who never been there. They have something similar to this at the MOA. I have to admit I like Menchie’s better.
